In most developing countries the characteristics of energy demand in the rural context, especially for both the low population densities and the low income people, the heavy investments in the distribution network and the low consumption have restricted the spreading of this more convenient way of energy supply. Many studies relate that decentralized systems and its insertion in the rural energizing process can overcome these barriers. This work describes an appropriate and original methodology for evaluating the generation of electrical energy by using hybrid aeolian-photovoltaics systems. The methodology is used in energy planning to supply small remote communities and farms. With this methodology, several technical analysis can be carried out involving parameters and variables of the aeolian-photovoltaic systems. The simulation model takes into consideration the variability and the availability of the resources. This is made on an hourly basis. With this is possible to simulate real situations and conditions. The model calculates the capacity factor, utilization factor, installed power, annual energy generated and the loss of power supply probability. Using the proposed method, a hybrid aeolian-photovoltaic system was simulated to supply a specific energy demand and the results are presented. The results have shown that the new model is very flexible and reliable.
