Two already known photovoltaic cell models are the two diode model and the one diode and four parameters model. The purpose of this work is to compare these models regarding real data collected in a photovoltaic water pumping project runned in a rural community in the state of Ceara. The models were performed in MatLab programming language in order to build the photovoltaic module IV curve and estimate the full array current given the solar radiation, cell temperature and array voltage. The root mean square error calculated on a one month basis was 17.1% in the L4P model and 10.1% in the two diode model. One concludes from the results that the two diode model produces results as good as expected from models which do not consider spectral correction neither solar incidence angle correction. Moreover, one sees that the L4P model can just be used as a rough instalation dimension prediction tool although it has the advantage of requesting only manufacturer data to be performed.
