Napier grass is widely used as animal feed. Its use as energy still is incipient. Studies of economic aspects for this use are practically inexistent. The present paper has the purpose to bring preliminary evaluations of the cost of agricultural production of napier grass for energy use, through of approaches made from costs for fodder plant. The methodology are based in techniques of decision analysis. The reference of analysis is the cost per ton of dry mass of napier grass on the farm. The stages of agricultural production are the following ones: formation and maintenance. In both stages, the item most important in the cost of agricultural production, is the fertilization, which in turn influences the agricultural productivity. The initial results shows the production cost varies from R$10 to R$13 (US$5,5 to US$7,2), per ton of dry mass on the farm.

Keywords : Capim elefante; custo de produção; energia.
