This paper presents the results obtained through the establishment of a field research with the inclusion of 18 families distributed in four communities concentrates at the Lagoonar-Estuarine in Iguape, Cananéia and Ilha Comprida in the southern littoral area in São Paulo. The energy consumption of these families was measured along more than one year using a methodology that include the users' direct participation. The data collecting, accomplished manually, sought to provide an inter-relationship among the system, the user and the researcher with the purpose to obtain social and cultural information related with the energy uses. The results showed that the behavior of the consumption differs between the families and that these differences, with more or less degree, obey some factors that made influence in a wide way. On the other hand, the consumption registrated values allowed to identify four groups of consumers.
