The proposition of sustainable development urges modifications in the exploitation of natural resources, in the management of investments and in the technological development model in order that the present potentials and future supply to the humankind needs are guaranteed. The main point in this work is that any effort towards sustainability must include rural areas and the improvement of its situation in a very clear way. As so, there is the need of a new approach to the energy issue. Investments in rural infrastructure are necessary, among them, an efficient and environmentally-safe energy supply, which could lead to a more efficient work and improvement in life quality.
