This paper analyses the technical and economical possibilities of the biogas production by digestion anaerobic of the sugarcane vinasse in Brazil. It was considered three possibilities: a) all biogas used in combustion internal machines (vehicles), after purification and compression; b) all biogas used in boilers and the effluent disposed in sugarcane plantation as fertilizer; c) 1/3 of biogas used in vehicles and 2/3 burned in boilers and the effluent disposed in sugarcane plantation as fertilizer. After this, the costs of biogas was compared with the prices of potentially concurrent fuels. The results suggest great potential of production and competitiveness with several fuels, mainly the fossils.
