The sugarcane mills sector presents difficulties at the traditional products of sugar and alcohol, stimulat attempts of diversification, p. ex., the use of the bagasse of sugar-cane for co-generation of electric energy and its supply for the energy concessionaires, that finds good perspectives current, ahead of the Brazilian energy crisis. However, it must be collated with other options, as the energy for the gas' thermoelectrial or for the growth of the hidreletricidade. It is analyzed the action of sucroalcooleiras industries on the Basin of Mogi-Guaçu's river, as the use of the bagasse of the sugar cane for the co-generation of electric energy. Specifically, it evaluates which the participation of the co-generation in companies' income, the plans of expansion of the co-generation, the sources of financing for investments, the difficulties at the commercialization, adaptations in the sugarcane plantation and the use of the bagasse for other ends. It can be evidenced that, even so the motivation of some industries for the same co-generation and its growth in some of them, lasts problems at the attainment of the necessary resources for efficient equipment for exploitation of the productive potential of energy with competitivies costs. It also exists, the risk of this energy of the sucroalcooleiro sector, not to be more necessary for the Brazilian energy sector and maybe lose the done investments there. Evidence of the study indicate that the average stated period the co-generation of energy throug the sugar cane bagasse will not represent important parcel of prescriptions of the sector nor will have great meaning in the Brazilian energy matrix.
