This work presents a computational program to analyse wind and solar photovoltaic systems (ASES), developed in the Visual Basic 6.0® programming language, which has the purpose of offering an easy interaction with the user. The program's main advantage is to make it easy for the user to analyze the energy potential, to design and to study wind and photovoltaic energy systems, starting from information of the local characteristics and the generators. The program is composed of two independents modules; one to analyse the wind system and another to analyse the solar photovoltaic system, both including the processing of the meteorological data available. The individual modules can be put together in a package to allow for a more complete analyse of the two sources in only one hybrid system. To show the applicability of the program, a case study is used here for a stand-alone hybrid system. This study clearly shows the importance of the right choice of the wind turbine to match the wind characteristics of the site and the possibility of complementarity between the wind and solar sources for the studied site.
