An evaluation of the energy potential of biomass residues in the Amazon region is presented, with a view to minimise costs and environmental impacts with sustainable energy sources. The extractivist agricultural and forest residues such as brazil nuts edible fruit of the Brazil nut tree, of the family of lecitidáceas (Bertholletia excelsa). The fruit, weighing on average 2,4 kg, consists of a shell enclosing on average 25 brown pods with 1/3 of the gross weight of the fruit. From the production cycle and laboratory measurements of the calorific value of the residue, its potential and comparison with woody biomass as an energy source is determined from the Laws of Thermodynamics.
