The Solar Energy Laboratory of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, the Renewable Energy Laboratory of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul and the Solar Energy Researches Center (of Cuba) are developing researches with the purpose of verifying the viability of the use of the eolian photovoltaic hybrid systems, for zones with different patterns of wind speed and with conditions of solar radiation similar to that found on Rio Grande do Sul. This work shows the procedure that is being adopted in a hybrid system constituted by a photovoltaic panel with 424 Wp and a wind turbine with 400 W. A preliminary characterization of the mounted electric generator was accomplished in a test stand where the rotation of the generator and the consumption of the load are controlled. Later, for evaluation of the performance of the turbine, a wind tunnel was used. The main variables monitored by a data acquisition system were: solar radiation, temperatures, wind speed and direction, besides voltages and currents of the system.
