Abstract

The paper presents a decision criterion to aid the planning of rural electricity supply, when it comes to choose among grid or PV off-grid supply alternatives. It also proposes an operational strategy to PV residential rural electrification programmes and defines a PV tariff structure considering three PV service levels (5, 10 and 15kWh/month). In order to get to the results it was assumed a concession of equivalent levels of subsidy both to the grid and off-grid supply options (in the case of consumers presenting low income and very low monthly demand consumers - lower than 30kWh/mês).
