This work presents the experience of installing photovoltaic systems in a fishermen village called Ilha da Ferradura ("Horse Shoe" island), in the Paraná River, by the Ilha Solteira city (SP). The PV systems were donated by a manufacturer to the City Council of Ilha Solteira. The installation and technical support was followed by the Group of Studies in Alternative Energy Sources, which is certified by the CNPq (a Brazilian federal research agency). Aspects related to the changes in the householder lifestyle are presented, along with a social condition analysis. Electric measurements and studies on technical and economical problems related to the system maintenance are carried out. Technical details about the installed system are presented as well as the problems to access the island, the lack of technical knowledge and even the misunderstanding about the costs of the system by the householders.
