The access to electrical energy in isolated areas in the countryside is more than the Brazilian rural owners' wish, it is a national problem. The energy rural owner receive in their properties should be of such quality that it could adequately fulfil their necessities. On the other hand, it is the rural owners responsibility to use it in an efficient way, in safe electrical installations besides taking advantage of the duty options offered. This paper is about the quality of the utilized energy by the rural owners, focusing on the oscillation tension problem in long distance rural grids. Methods of starting engines are analysed from the demand-side whereas tools of network administration are reviewed from the supply-side. The Aneel Resolution number 505/01, which is about the indexes of tension conformity which is also analysed and compared to the DNAEE Order number 047/1978 that was in vigour until last year. Many countryside areas still do not receive electrical energy. That is why the Federal government has launched some financial programmes to this specific area. The most well known among these ones is 'PRODEEM' and 'Luz no Campo'. They were launched because the investments in rural grids are too high and the payback is too long, what does not encourage private investments. The main aim of this work is to evaluate the level of the tension in rural properties, presenting solutions which could benefit the demand and the supply at the same time.
