The researches in which materials and alternative techniques of construction are used, in the current context of use of residues and preservation environment are assuming importance in the engineering, and some types of residues can be used with technical advantages and reduction of costs, as it is the case of the addition of granular material, resulting from building residues used in soil-cement mixtures. This work presents results of soil characterization test of sample collected in Ilha Solteira-SP and soil with addition of cement mortar residue, aiming the manufacturing of soil-cement bricks. It was aimed at to reduce the production cost and improve the quality of soil-cement, and to propitiate conditions for the utilization of these residues. Proctor cylinder specimens and also bricks specimens were made to obtain compressive strength and humidity absorption. Compacting test and grain-size analysis were made using the following dosages: soil natural, soil plus 20% of residue and soil plus 40% of residue, using in each case three cement content (6%, 8% and 10%). The tests were performed in accordance with Brazilian technical standard.
