Here are reported preliminary tests using pinnus wood, mesocarpo of green coconut and macadâmia shell. They are carbonized and later physically activated with CO2 or chemically with ZnCl2. The resulting activated carbons (AC) are charecterized with scanning electronic microscopy, the BET method for determination of the specific surface area-ASE, real density-DR, helium picnometry among others. The results indicate macadâmia shell originates better AC, with average micropores in the range of 1,2-1,6 nm, apparent density of 1,08 g/cm3, and ASE-BET 1400m2/g. Then, these AC have the possibility to be applied in NG storage.
