This work presents an overview of the ongoing NERAM - A model for Eletric Power Enterprise in isolated comunities in the Amazon, a project from CDEAM (Center for Amazonian Energetic development), financed by CNPq (National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development). This project aims at estabilishing a model for rural eletrcification asssociated with income generation and based on the sustainable use of local resources. This paper presents the most relevant aspects of the context as well as a general description of the project. The current rural power suply, the socio-economic condition of isolatred comunities, the income generation from acai pulp and the sistem generation, the biomass caracterization are topics adressed herewith. This text aims at a global outlook and to provide basic understanding of the project, since specific papers will adress these issues separately and in depth.
