The main characteristics of the rural economy in the State of Bahia are presented in this paper, together with the evolution of its main components in the last years and the growth perspectives for the next years. A more detailed analysis is carried out for the rural areas in the state which present higher development potential and for their respective crops. The progression of the state of Bahia' shares in the national rural economy's value added and the energy intensity changes of the main energy carriers employed in this sector are also presented in the paper.
