The challenges that education is presently faced with require that teachers and researchers alike seek a constant dialog among the many areas of professional work, in an attempt to extend the boundaries of each area and effectively contribute to overcome the contemporary problems that afflict the subjects of the educational process. This text aims to establish a dialog among the perspectives appointed by literacy teachers on the use of one's given name in the literacy acquisition process, in addition to the works of Emília Ferreiro (Education) and Lacan (Psychoanalysis) on one's given name. I have opted for these authors, mainly because the former is a prominent researcher who describes the psychogenesis of the written language, i.e., how it is acquired by children, and the latter, equally prominent, describes the psychical constitution of the subject, reviewing and building on some of the concepts created by Freud while investigating new theories that will enable a greater understanding of contemporary symptoms.
