This study aims to report about the theoretical contribution concerning Group Work to the experiences of students who participated in the subject matter " Communication in Adult Health I - The Interaction of Verbal and Nonverbal Language in Interpersonal Relationships", taught in the Post Graduation Program of the Nursing School at São Paulo University (USP). Data were submitted to Bardin's content analysis in accordance with a qualitative approach. Ethical procedures were respected. The results pointed out the need for defining and clarifying the objectives to be achieved by the group as well as the importance of the coordinator recognizing individual differences and promoting participants' creativity, respect and solidarity as essential for group functioning.
