The problem situation of this research is the "lack of communication" between the nurse in charge of a post anesthesia recuperation room and the interned child, which may be the main reason for the change in the child's emotions. Thus, we establish the communication that impedes traumas in children on RPA as the object of study. This study aims to identify what the nurses know about communication and how they communicate with the children on RPA and to observe how the nursing assistants take care of the children on RPA. We used a qualitative approach and the strategy used for collecting information was the elaboration of two instruments, one for interviewing nurses and the other to observe the care rendered by the assistants. On the basis of the information analysis, two categories were obtained: COMMUNICATION and CARE - the nurses THINK they know and KNOW what they do not do: the maintenance of rational care and "becoming" sensitive; they CARE and without KNOWING, they CARE with SENSIBILITY: forgetting about rational care. In analyzing the data, we verified that the nurse has an empiric knowledge - resulting from experience of communication and they know scientifically how to receive a child on RPA and the nursing assistant neither thinks nor knows scientifically, but empirically renders a DIFFERENT CARE, involving sensibility.
