The study shows the process of orientating-researching with graduating students in the interdisciplinary program IX at the Anna Nery Nursing School. As this research results from pratice, the object of study is the non-verbal proxemic communication of graduating students during supervised training in the surgery center of a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Through a field observation script and semi-structured recorded interviews, the research seeks to examine the proxemic manifestation of the graduating student, emphasizing his position in the surgery room in relation to the client and to the surgery team: nursing assistents and nurses, surgeons and anesthetists. The research highlights how the impact of knowledge about proxemic manifestations changes the relation between the students in their interactions with professionals and the client. Data indicate that the graduating student as an element in this context must try to open a communication channel, whether by manifesting concern or being active and capable of cooperating in a trust relationship between the participants in the process.
