The present study tries to describe and analyze communication practice during the visit to the bed as a nursing care quality factor in the Gynecological Surgery Clinic of the Maternity School Assis Chateaubriand, a hospital that is part of the Federal University of Ceará. The proposed reflection leads to the inference that this activity represents a great challenge for the nurses that intend to promote this kind of communication, since it involves, besides being an important facet of attention, that time would have to be made for this activity, which is another important aspect of nursing care, represented by patient valuation, seeking to uncover their world and understand their needs.

Keywords : surgery; nursing attendance; communication.
