Considering that the deaf need to improve their knowledge on health, we propose to investigate the implementation of workshops on the basis of the usage of a guidebook called Sexual and Reproductive Health: Speaking to the Deaf, which is aimed at this group and uses participative exercises. In an attempt to explain the educative phenomena present in this study, we started from Paulo Freire´s Theory (1980, 1993, 1994, 1999), since our proposal involves the education of adults. This research-action was developed with deaf people who participate in two Catholic Church groups in Fortaleza. The outputs showed that the method is viable, since the participative exercises reduced communication difficulties, besides facilitating the transmission of contents and the evaluation of the deaf´s learning. We concluded that the workshops in this study represent an important step towards quality care in the context of sexual and reproductive health for the deaf.
