This study aimed at warning nurses about how the invasion of privacy can hinder nurse/patient interpersonal relations. We highlight the importance of communication as a facilitating instrument for the interaction process, as well as that of attitudes and behaviors demonstrating respect and consideration for the individual characteristics of each patient. Non-verbal communication is emphasized as a means of message transmission, which is at times more expressive and influential than the verbal form. Concomitantly, it is necessary to conquer the patient's confidence, respecting and protecting his privacy. To that end, the nurse must be capable of capturing and interpreting the produced messages, seeking to understand the needs of each individual in order to establish a relationship that is based on trust and mutual respect. Nurses must improve their communicability, which is frequently a gift, but can and must be developed. An efficient communication process is essential for the implementation of quality, personalized and holistic nursing care.
