Discourse is characterized by the fact that language is made up by ambiguities and that the comprehension of the language phenomenon should not only be sought in language, but also at a level outside language/speech. Discourse about adolescent pregnancy presents a contrast between official discourse and experience. Thus, this study aims to discuss otherness in discourse with respect to adolescent pregnancy and how this process is articulated by various subjects. A descriptive exploratory research was realized from a qualitative approach, using discourse analysis. It was observed that the female adolescent can experience pregnancy as an experience that happens outside her, and its occurrence is loaded with symbolism, including objective and subjective variables. Political, economic and scientific discourse seeks to interpret the meaning of these pregnancies for the woman’s life, as well as for society. This study aimed to approximate the concept of otherness, analyzing discourse about adolescent pregnancy with a view to its understanding, in order to apply this knowledge in intervening in this population. This study also presented the opportunity to develop a new way of interpretation.
