The "Breastfeeding Counseling Course", which has been conceived and implemented by the United Nation’s Children’s Emergency Fund - UNICEF in partnership with the World Health Organization - WHO, represents an important initiative towards recognizing and valuing woman as a breastfeeding agent and aims to develop skills in health professionals, who are closely related to the communication techniques classified by Stefanelli (1993), for them to be able to help mothers with their difficulties concerning breastfeeding. This work aims at presenting reflections on the course content and its importance in constructing a new breastfeeding care model, which will take into account human communication as a basic instrument for its implementation.
