This study deals with the need to maintain an open communication line between nursing professionals and the multidisciplinary team in relation to medication administration to elderly persons. Its aims are: 1) to verify if the nursing students observed undesirable reactions in the use of medication with elderly patients. 2) to point out the importance of communication in administering medication to elderly persons. This is an exploratory study from a qualitative approach. Subjects were nursing students in the 5^th and 6^th semesters at a public university. For data collection, a questionnaire was elaborated in view of the study object and objectives. We observed that the students were concerned about reporting expected reactions in medication use. This indicated that they are not primarily worried about adverse reactions, which are so common in treating elderly persons. Thus, we demonstrated the importance of adapting knowledge about medication administration in elderly persons and the need to maintain a flow of information in nursing records and shift changes for the sake of appropriate communication about the reactions that may appear in medication use in elderly persons, with a view to an effective evaluation of medication therapy.
