This study aims to describe the experience with web-based instruction in graduate nursing courses, and to present a theoretical framework for online education. The online learning environment is considered an "information ecology", where the student’s active participation is mandatory to sustain the ecosystem´ balance. This learning environment has been used in the last years in many areas, which turns it into an alternative, especially for adult education.
