Saito Emília, Gualda Dulce Maria Rosa. Worrying about labor and delivery pain and its manifestation during childbearing process. In: Proceedings of the 8. In seeking to understand labor pain experience by women who gave birth at a hospital school, where analgesics are not common, data analysis and the way pregnant women express this pain in the care context allowed for the perception that the expectation of feeling pain is an inherent part of the delivery process. This ethnographic study adopted Cultural Anthropology as a reference base and data were collected by means of interviews and direct observation. We conclude that the caring professional’s welcoming attitude may be a strategy for understanding the phenomenon, no matter which stage it is in. Thus, it enables the implementation of an efficient and quality care, since it exercises a positive influence on the relation between the professional and the woman and her family.

Keywords : pain; labor; obstetric care.
