This study aimed to identify factors that interfere in the communication process among nursing professionals, according to the coordinating nurses’ opinions, as well as to present and discuss strategies that facilitate communication in the nursing team. Data were collected by means of group dynamics, during the realization of a Pedagogical Workshop, whose main subject was Leadership in its different facets, including communication in the nursing team. Thirteen nurses from the hospital area participated of the research. Content analysis was used for analyzing the collected data. Results disclosed the main factors interfering in communication, such as the fact of not knowing how to listen, the lack of transparency and some specific professional situations. Suggested strategies for communication improvement included: listening more to the people, give feedback, give information to the team and manage time better. It was concluded that the use of appropriate communication strategies constitutes a key skill for successful teams.
