This brief bibliographic review aims to emphasize communication in nurses’ role as a leader. We believe there is a need for reflections about the subject, which may allow nurses to exert their tasks with more quality and efficiency, in consonance with modern leadership proposals. Both competent leadership and efficient communication reflect in the improvement of assistance delivered to clients. We understand this theme as being complex, once it opens up fields for new research, validating the skills of nurses committed to the quality of their actions.

Keywords : nursing; leadership; communication.
