This paper deals with the importance of the communication for Japanese immigrant patients during the hospitalization period. To unveil their experiences, we chose to realize a qualitative research from a phenomenological approach. It could be understood that culture actually exerts an important influence on the behavior and attitudes of these Japanese immigrants concerning their disease and hospitalization. In the framework of these experiences, the Japanese immigrant showed that the difficulty in speaking Portuguese interfered in understanding the disease and its treatment and in the relationship with the health team, which enhanced the feeling of insecurity.
