Abstract

ALVIM, Alyne de Medeiros, SANTOS, Camila de Oliveira, FIGUEIREDO, Nébia Maria Almeida de et al. Communication as nursing care. In Proceedings of the 8. The object of this study is communication as a form of nursing care for mothers of interned children; research is guided by the question of why nurses, in their daily care practice, are "not" used to communicating and/or orienting the children’s mothers, in view of the knowledge that communication is a basic instrument for nursing care. The study aimed to characterize the elements used in nursing orientation/communication that tranquilize or stress the mothers of interned children, as well as to analyze communication elements as nursing care. A qualitative approach was used. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. It was concluded that nurses merely use observation and discourse for communication, but do not communicate in a therapeutic way, so as to decrease the stress, anxiety and affliction felt by the mothers of interned children.

Keywords : nursing; communication; care.
