This essay reflects on the performance of the nurse as a manager or leader in the context of service rendering. The authoritarian management practiced by this professional is outlined and considerations are made about his understanding, feelings and resistance. This way, leadership is approached in consonance with contemporary organizational methods and resources, from the perspective of communication as a human competency.
