This paper analyzes the central elements in the pedagogy developed by Paulo Freire in his early works, particularly the concepts of awareness and culture. We aimed to clarify our analysis in light of philosophical propositions with an educational forged in popular political mobilization occurred in the first fruits of 60 years in Brazil and its effects on popular education. We start from the perspective according to which the concepts of awareness and culture form at this time of reflection and production freirianas articulator of a binomial matrices philosophical and educational purposes of his educational proposal, for which we also seek to bring some sense and counteract the view that these educators also had other concepts linked to the movements of popular culture, which at the time proposed radical changes within the Education and whose propositions (them and their movements) often fell into a deep oblivion. The expected results of our analysis help with the rescue of even partial history of popular education, show how, despite the particular contribution of Freire about you, as developer, publisher and systematizing methodology, awareness was formed in word generating various educational proposals produced by an expanded range of educational agents, authors of social mobilization has undertaken a range of experiments in which Freire was one of many participants and contributors.
