In Brazil, the expression of educational practices developed in non-school context has shown that another field of activity is concretized ruled, especially in overcoming the suffering and marginalization in which a significant number of the population survives. The proliferation and diversity of actions in the educational field - the field that we have called non-formal education, non-school education, social and educational practices, social work, among others - reminds us of the need for understanding about the epistemological foundations that guide these practices. In this sense, we start from assumptions farthest to visualize the scenarios that constituted such a reality and opened space for the educational practices happen the way they are today in Brazil. For this, we put the challenge to present and discuss the relationship between the social and popular in dialogue with the practices in the educational field, establishing similarities and differences between what we call field strength (Popular Education) and field of intervention (Pedagogy social), guided by the following questions: What concept (s) serve as a foundation for social educational practices no school today? What people can contribute to the social as an indication for a transformation? Where approaches and where the distance Social Pedagogy of the Popular Education or vice versa? Dialogues, among others, the following authors: Machado (2011), Martinez (2011); Krichesky (2011), Gohn (2008); Caride (2005); Puiggros (2005), Pérez-Nuñez (2003), Castel (1998); Manfredi (1980) and Berger Luckmann (1974).
