This paper aims to communicate the contemporary thinking of Teixeira in investigations on "education and spirituality" in Brazilian school, before the euphoric religious landscape enabling a renewed national discussion of religious education in schools. Accordingly, it is intended to restate some results and implications of institutional strength in the discourse of religion on the face of the proposed secularization of public schools, besides seeking to locate in the panorama of popular education, the formation of the common man, and fit for free the effective exercise of democracy.
