Approval of the National Guidelines for Offering of Education in Prisons in 2009, paved the way for a discussion on the relevance of a political pedagogical project for the Brazilian penitentiary system, seated in the provisions of Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education and Penal Execution Law. In this sense the political pedagogical project - PPP, prisons enables healthy complementarity between education and criminal law, promotes coordination between sectoral policies, enhances the synergy between science pedagogy and penitentiary law and mobilizes different professional fields around goals common. Taking Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed as its theoretical inspiration, the article explores the specificity of PPP for the prison context grounded in the experience of the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso. The drafting of PPP for education in prisons enables design this educational tool as a means of reframing the meaning historically attributed to crime, punishment and the prison in Brazil from the moment that puts education and your goals as an important element for rehabilitation criminal.
