The Educational Center for Reference Herval da Cruz Braz was created in 2010 as one of the actions of the Department of Education of Juiz de Fora (MG) in the implementation of proposals to improve the quality of education. The target audience are students in the 6th grade students enrolled in schools of which have at least three failures on their school. More than the age / grade mismatch has been observed that these students are excluded from education systems, especially for "inappropriate" to reference standards of the schools of origin. Are regarded as undisciplined, "student problem", "unrecoverable." Your destination is the avoidance or, at best, going early to adult education. The proposal has been much resistance from society, academia and the network itself that saw the project as segregating. Today, after two years of operation, about 200 students have successfully completed elementary school and are in high school, and a new class of 200 students is starting. The project has not only recovered the "lost time" and not the knowledge acquired by these students, which can be confirmed by the assessments throughout the project. Especially has regained self-esteem, the ability to believe that it is worth being in school and that are capable of learning, something they had lost. The Center Herval emerges as a new model of school and can be considered a reference to inclusive educational practices, capable of facing the challenge of diversity, learning difficulties, indiscipline, providing proper education to the needs of students, especially those who are excluded by system. The main actions that guide the work in this school are: the management model adopted; adequacy of pedagogical and especially the role of the student. This is at the center of all actions of the school, with its difficulties, its limits, especially with its potential. The ideas of Paulo Freire, Anton Makarenko has sustained reflections of professionals of this project, whose principles are the commitment to the liberation of the other.
