Abstract

This article is based on the master dissertation of one of the authors (FUJIMOTO 2004), and presents the main acoustic diagnosing results and alterationsadjustments to render a domestic room appropriate to be used as a home theater, equipped with a commercial 5.1 system. The acoustic alterations, based on the measurements of acoustic quality parameters for small rooms, pointed to the need of a well-damped room, with diffusion to enhance the surround effects, which was accomplished with QRD diffusers in the room lateral walls. A 2^nd subwoofer strategically located on the back of the audition area was found necessary for the spatial uniformity of the low frequency acoustic response and for a better reproduction of the low frequency effects.
