This article is part of an ongoing research that will result in a doctoral dissertation in Social Service at UNESP- Franca-Brazil, it aims to contribute to the important and controversial discussion currently posited about Social Service and the Work category, considering the undeniable consequent implications, from the appropriation of the Marxian theory and Marxist tradition. In this perspective, we investigate how Brazilian social assistants have appropriated of the critical social theory from the classic works by Ricardo Antunes , approaching the centrality of the work category (and of the working class) as a possibility of human emancipation.
