This paper aims at discussing the work that firemen do and its relation to health-sickness process. First, a brief presentation of work clinical approaches is made, identifying those concepts that contribute to the analyses of the real activity. Then, a review of Brazilian literature, available in Scielo database, was conducted. The study of the selected researches shows that the firemen, as a professional group, present a widening picture of disease cases, mainly those related to mental health. However, studies that focus on the activity, that address the complexity of the work, bringing to the front its dynamics, are missing. They represent a gap in the area.
