There have been different opinions about adolescents' working. Part of Brazilian population considers adolescent's working as a way for socialization, while another part understands it as an exploration strategy. Studies carried out in Brazil have shown negative effects of work in teenagers, damages that can be evident only later in life; not considering sub-employment, precarious work conditions, insufficient school performance and social deprivation. Thus, in this text, the complex and controversial issue of adolescents' working is discussed, the conditions that justify this work and, on the other hand, its repercussion in the teenagers development. It is a theoretical essay, whose discussion points to the adolescents' working as a way of obtaining cheap work force, generating profit for those who hire them and several problems for the teenagers, such as: health problem and school evasion.
