The nearly 35-year Stroessner dictatorship (1954 -1989) Paraguayan clash of political instability, experienced since the end of the Paraguayan War (1864-1870). The longevity of this government is usually attributed to social control imposed by the state apparatus of repression and the general growth of the Paraguayan economy. This economic performance was due to some extent, a pragmatic foreign policy "realist". This essay aims to analyze the main lines of foreign policy Paraguayan government Stroessner from 1954 to 1989, especially its relations with the United States, Brazil and Argentina.
