This work intends to understand how the cultural identity and the musicality of the youth may drive the learning of a foreign language. It presents the analytical category of youth and the education of the youth in a foreign language based on the reading of Flitner (1968), Mannheim (1961), Margulis (2001), Dayrell (2007) and Spósito (2008). Thus, the main question of this article is: can the interest of the youth in music be a motivation for studying a foreign language?  The speech of a teacher in a narrative interview assayed by the documentary method from Bohnsack (2010) and Weller (2002, 2005, 2007, and 2011) is presented. This teacher, in the 1950s, when still young, departed to the United States in search of music education and choral music; she later became English teacher and the founder of a center for foreign language education for public schools' students.

Palabras llave : youth; foreign language; musicality; narrative interview; documentary method.
