On October 2 this year 2012, the Carandiru Massacre fullfil twenty years. Though quite forgotten by the elites - even for the most part devoted to the "social" problems, over the years, this event demonstrates an increasing relevance for the Brazilian political history. Today, we know it was just one of the first moments of an "Age of massacres" and of an uninterrupted process of encarceramente mass. This short essay seeks to describe and to give a name to a major crossroads in which popular organizations find themselves nowadays. To help thinking about how to face it, we offer the translation of a speech by the rapper Tupac Shakur at the same fateful year 1992. In our view, it is a way of thought at the same time strange and fruitful about the political positioning of popular organizations in times of massacres.
