Our proposed work includes reflections on the research project "Youth and Gender in the context of Hip Hop Movement"(APQ-FACEPE 09/2010). The objective was to understand socio-politicaland cultural participation of young people of hip hop movement in the city of Caruaru which contributes to the construction of a youth participatory political culture and development of gender equality. We employ like procedures for recording information: informal conversations, interviews, tracking the activities of the moviment, and photographic Record of graffiti. We realize that young people's participation in the spaces of political discussion is incipient and participation of young people in hip hop culture is made invisible which we associate with the rigorousness of codes of morality and honor in a midsize city. The young men and women interviewed are immersed in a frayed  social tissue and their support networks are weakened that impacts a lot in the realization of their life projects.

Palavras-chave : youth; social participation; the hip hop movement.
