Abstract
Thispaper results from asurvey ofyoungwomenmembers of thehip hop movementand aims toreflect on thepolitical and culturalproductionof thegraphiteelementin the city ofRecife. This qualitativestudyadopted theethnographic report, interview andphotographic recordof graffitiduringits production processby four youths. Thepublic-private relationsappeared assignificantlyrelevant,since thehiphopcultureisa"street", especially the production ofgraphite,creating tensionsfor participationand circulationin the city. Experiments areproblematizedfrom thegender category, which contributesto reflectabout the social relationsof power andidentify thecodesof coexistence and(dis) equalities,for whichwe have identifiedthreedifferentsocio-politicalpositions: 1)playing themacho culturedominant, 2) the production ofcritical readingson thedominant culture, 3) the construction ofproposals forchange, still in its infancy, this culture.
