This work on the systematization of Pernambuco Maracatu Nation and its religious aspects, was developed during the basic course on Popular Culture. With the objective to seek, in the reach social sciences and folklore, discussions on the cultural productions, and their theoretical impasses, and expose the experience of young members of "Associação Cultural Arrasta Ilha", the city of Florianópolis, that the practice culture African-Brazilian find ways to meet the Nations of Maracatu. Through these experiences with masters these Nations, through workshops organized by the association, these young people are seeking support their knowledge about this cultural manifestation, and its religious aspects. So this work points to some reflections on the African-Brazilian popular culture, from the expertise lined in the studies of folklorists and social scientists, as well as by reflection based on the empirical experience with the master Shacon Viana Maracatu Nation of Puerto Rico.
